About the project

The Open Task Light is a project by me, Steven Bennett. I started documenting the process of designing and building the light through a series of YouTube build logs in 2022.

My background is in user experience design, but I’ve always been drawn to making physical things (prototyping, electronics, fabrication, and just generally figuring out how things work). The Open Task Light grew out of that curiosity and eventually became an open-source project and a kit that others could build, modify, and repair themselves.
